BECOME A VOLUNTEER

At Wildlife Rescue Queensland, our volunteers are the heart of everything we do.

Whether you're out on the road rescuing injured animals, helping care for orphaned joeys, or lending a hand behind the scenes, your time and passion directly save lives.

There’s a role for everyone, no matter your skills or experience, and we’d love to welcome you to the team.

Want to make a real difference for our wildlife?

RESCUING INJURED OR SICK WILDLIFE

Wildlife Rescue Queensland responds to reports of injured, sick, or orphaned wildlife 24/7. Whether you can help with one rescue a week or one a day, your contribution makes a difference. No prior training is required—our team will guide you every step of the way, helping you learn the skills needed to safely rescue and care for wildlife.

By getting involved, you’ll gain valuable knowledge about our native animals and have the chance to meet compassionate members of the community who share your dedication to wildlife care.

TRANSPORTING ANIMALS

Many rescued animals need urgent care at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital. If you have a vehicle and some spare time, you can assist by transporting animals to the hospital. This support allows rescuers to focus on the rescue itself without needing to make the full trip to Beerwah.

We run three designated transport trips daily from Caboolture to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital, every day of the year.

24 HOUR HOTLINE HELP

Our 24-hour hotline is a vital resource for the public, and we’re always in need of confident and compassionate phone operators. With full training provided, you’ll learn how to handle a wide range of wildlife-related calls.

This role is often understaffed, so every contribution makes a difference. Thanks to our new hotline system, we now offer flexible options for those interested in helping with phone calls, admin tasks, or data entry. Whether you can spare an hour, a shift each month, or a few days a week, your support is invaluable to our team.

BECOME A WILDLIFE CARER

Wildlife Rescue Queensland is always on the lookout for dedicated carers. As a carer, you’ll receive comprehensive training to ensure you’re confident and equipped to handle rescued and injured wildlife.

Caring for animals at home may not suit everyone due to work, family commitments, or the costs of setting up. But don’t let that stop you from getting involved! There are plenty of other ways to contribute to WRQ’s mission.

COLLECT NATIVE PLANT CUTTINGS

Feeding animals in care is a time-consuming task, especially for carers with young orphans needing round-the-clock attention. Collecting native plant cuttings for possums, gliders, kangaroos, and other wildlife is essential to their care and helps ensure they have the nutrition they need to thrive.

OTHER WAYS TO HELP

There are many ways to support Wildlife Rescue Queensland beyond wildlife care:

  • Fundraising: Help out at sausage sizzles or other fundraising events throughout the year.
  • Administration: Assist with data entry, office tasks, or IT support—perfect for those skilled in admin.
  • Sewing Pouches: Create pouches for our animals in care. We’ll provide easy-to-follow instructions.
  • Building Possum Boxes: Use your woodworking skills to make possum boxes, essential for both care and release. Instructions and materials are provided!
  • Special Skills: Have a unique talent or idea? We’d love to hear how you can help.
